You need to learn and practice the basic crochet stitches to learn to crochet. The basic crochet stitches are: single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet and treble crochet. Once you have mastered these basic stitches, you will be able to move on to more advanced work.
Basic crochet stitches: Single crochet (Sc)
Insert your hook in the Chain (Ch). Yarn over (YO) and pull up a loop. You have 2 loops on your hook, YO and pull through the 2 loops on your hook.
To make a swatch:
Chain (Ch) any number of chains
Row1: Starting in the 2nd Chain (Ch) from the hook Sc. Repeat * Insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through the 2 loops on your hook. Repeat *in chain. Ch1 and turn your work.
Row2: Sc in the first stitch. *Insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through the 2 loops on your hook. Repeat * in each stitch till the end of the row. Ch1 and turn your work.

Basic crochet stitches: Half Double Crochet (Hdc)
*Yarn Over (YO) and insert your hook in the chain, YO and pull up a loop. You have 3 loops on your hook. YO and pull through the 3 loops on your hook.
To make a swatch:
Chain any number of chains
Row 1: Starting in the 3rd chain (ch) from the hook, Hdc. * YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through the 3 loops on your hook. Repeat * in each chain. Ch2 and turn your work.
Row2: Hdc in the first stitch. YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through the 3 loops on your hook. Repeat * in each stitch till end of row. Ch2 and turn your work.

*YO and insert your hook in the chain. YO and pull up a loop, you have 3 loops on your hook, YO and pull through the first 2 loops, YO and pull through the last 2 loops on your hook.

Row1. Starting in the 4th Chain( ch) from the hook, Dc. YO, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through the first 2 loops, YO and pull through the last 2 loops. Repeat * in each chain, ch3 and turn your work. (ch3 counts as a stitch)
Row2. Starting in the 2nd stitch, dc. (the ch3 counts as a stitch) YO and insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through the last 2 loops. Repeat * in each stitch till the end of the row. Ch3 and turn your work. (ch3 counts as a stitch)

Basic crochet stitches: Treble Crochet (Tr)
*YO and insert your hook in the chain, YO and pull up a loop. You have 4 loops on your hook, YO and pull through the first 2 loops , YO and pull through the next 2 loops, YO and pull through the last 2 loops on your hook.
To make a swatch:
Chain
Any number of chains
Row1. Starting in the 5th chain(ch) from the hook, Trb YO twice, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops, YO again and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through the last 2 loops. Repeat * in each chain. Ch5 and turn your work. (ch5 counts as a stitch)
Row2. Starting in the 2nd stitch, Trb. * YO twice, insert your hook, YO and pull up a loop, YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through 2 loops, YO and pull through the last 2 loops. Repeat * in each stitch till the end of the row. Ch5 and turn your work. (ch5 counts as a stitch)
